There is no documented incident of anyone spitting on a returning Vietnam soldier in the airport, nor any Vietnam soldier having ever reported such an incident contemporaneously, such that it is believed that that image was invented by Hollywood.

Renee,

My post was in no way to criticize recognizing the women who have died during their time of service. I agree - a life was lost either way. However, one of the newspaper articles was recognizing the "men and women" in the area who have died during the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, when in fact, no women in the area have actually died during those campaigns - combat or otherwise. Also, MSM coverage in general was grossly gender-disproportionate to the respective number of casualties during service.

As for The Dominatrix, she is, indeed, a real dominatrix, though I have never been and never will be her or any other dominatrix' client. As a casual student of the art of picking up and appealing to women, however, I have learned that adult entertainers generally need to see a guy as being different from their clients to be attracted to him - hence, it is no accident that she was positioned to sit at my feet at the beach.

Hey Dirk. I read your post over at the Spearhead and thought that I'd post a comment directly on your site:

Let me ask you this...a sacrifice is a sacrifice, is it not? A life was lost either way and should be acknowledged.

I understand your anger at this whole thing completely. But at the same time, how many male soldiers died during training, friendly fire, and accidents while on duty? I'm sure those deaths are counted along with those who died in combat. And I'm guessing that female deaths were included in the former group.

Considering that when it comes to war dead and soldiers in general, most people have male soldiers in mind (the default), I wouldn't say that women are "hijacking" Memorial Day simply because a few articles decided to acknowledge them specifically. It's a way of saying that yeah, there are female soldiers and women who took part in war and in the military, and still do.

I guess I'm wondering that if someone were to write articles memorializing male soldiers only, how would they do so without implying that female soldiers and their contributions mean absolutely nothing.

Hope that made sense. But yeah, people need to show more appreciation for out male soliders.

P.S.

She doesn't seem like a Dominatrix to me, unless I'm missing something.
